You might be thinking, “what are the benefits of new stucco” Sometimes there is no need to reinvent the wheel which is why many Colorado Springs homeowners are replacing their current exterior siding with stucco. Stucco housing dates back well over 1,000 years. Initially a simple mixture of cement, sand and water—modern stucco is applied with new technology and techniques that allow us to apply it directly on top of the existing vinyl or brick siding. The benefits of having stucco in Colorado Springs are far too many to ignore. Here are just a few reasons why this classic application is a good alternative to your siding alternatives.
Durable
One of the many benefits of stucco is that even in our extreme winters, it can last up to 50 years. Due to its longevity it costs a bit more to install than both vinyl and brick, which is why we offer a 3-part payment structure and other financing options. While you will pay a bit more upfront, it lasts up to twice as long as vinyl—and requires less maintenance than any of your other siding choices. In other words, it costs less in the long run. Don’t forget that you can repaint your new siding anytime you want to give your home a new look.
Low Maintenance Exterior Siding
We might have 300 days of sun here in Colorado, but our weather is extreme. Extreme weather increases the maintenance needs for brick and vinyl, but not stucco. It is the perfect weather-resistant, color-fast, chip and peel free alternative. Pressure washing for general cleanliness or to remove hard water stains is all it needs which is something that many homeowners can do themselves—or we can do for you as needed. Other than that, keep an eye out for hairline cracks. We provide a Limited-Life Warranty for our stucco siding and will repair any cracks wider than 1/8”.
Perfect For Every Architectural Styling
We can apply your new siding to support the design aesthetic of any type of architectural styling—American bungalow, raised ranch, mid-century modern, mountain rustic, contemporary, and more. That’s right! Those super sleek modern homes you see in magazines or real life are often made from a stucco finish. Once applied, your new siding can be painted any color you desire. We can even discuss carving designs or adding mosaics and murals into your cement coatings.
Fire Resistant
Stucco is fire resistant so be sure to let your homeowner’s insurance company know of your upgrade. Many companies will shave a few hundred dollars off of your annual premium just for making the move to stucco, not to mention the increased peace of mind that comes with upgrading to a more fire-resistant material.
Energy Efficiency
Your siding is one of your primary lines of defense against our harsh winter weather. Stucco provides an insulated layer that will keep your heat or air conditioning inside where it belongs. However, not all stucco is created equally. The installation method plays a vital role in energy efficiency.
Here at Greg Unseth Painting & Exteriors we utilize the most advanced technology and proven application techniques. We apply your new siding directly on top of your existing brick or vinyl in a multi-step, multi-layer process that takes 2-3 weeks in total. This includes adding a fiberglass mesh to the base coat and applying elastomeric finish coats. This helps to improve insulation, energy efficiency, ensure the integrity of your new siding, and create a uniform appearance. While there are faster methods, quality craftmanship is always our top priority.
Repairs Are Easy
We take every precaution to prevent hairline cracking and provide a Limited-Lifetime Warranty for uneven fading, chipping, peeling, or cracking wider than 1/8”. However, there are many variables that can lead to hairline cracking—which is why hairline cracks are not covered in our warranty. For example, ground conditions or a compromised foundation can lead to hairline cracks. Not to worry though. Once the cause of the hairline cracks has been addressed we can quickly and easily repair the cracks before they become problematic. If you aren’t sure what is causing your hairline cracks, we can come out for a free estimate at which time we will let you know if general wear is the cause or if there is a structural concern that needs to be addressed.
A Smooth Finish
Even with the undeniable benefits, a common misconception is that stucco is only available in a rough finish. While classic applications are visibly textured, modern techniques allow us to create a smooth and clean finish. Of course if you prefer a textured finish we can do that too. Once applied, we will paint your new siding, and paint and reapply your window frames and any other exterior elements that we had to remove during the process.
Sustainable Siding
The fact that stucco lasts up to 50 years makes it sustainable, but it doesn’t stop there! It is naturally:
- Water Shedding
- Breathable
- Impact Resistant
- Fire Resistant
- Color Retentive
- Rot And Fungus Resistant
- All-Weather Friendly
- Recyclable
- And More!
